CMS SupaTrak’s Sales and Marketing Director Sally Cumner was received into the Freedom of the Livery of Carmen by The Worshipful Company of Carmen on April 26 2023, at the Carmen’s Livery Hall in London.
Sally was awarded the prestigious Freedom by Immediate Past Master Carmen 21-22 Nick Laister in front of an audience of international guests, including Vince Dignam, Business Performance and Transport Group Manager, City of London, Eric Richardson, Deputy Chief Fleet Manager, City of New York, Paris Apollon, Director of Fleet Services, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, and Greg Spotts, Department of Transportation’s (SDOT) Director, City of Seattle, who were visiting the Livery Hall as part of Fleet Vision International – The Show.
CMS SupaTrak recently became the first corporate member of the Worshipful Company of Carmen. Sally was invited to become a Freeman to recognise her transport, air quality and decarbonisation achievements. Sally co-founded the Westminster Commission for Road Air Quality (WCRAQ) in 2020. Headed up by Barry Sheerman, MP, WCRAQ’s active working parties discuss, debate, and agree on policy recommendations. Since WCRAQ’s inception, Sally has tirelessly campaigned for better air quality policy in the UK.
As part of the ancient ceremony, she read out the Declaration of Carmen, swearing allegiance to the Worshipful Company of Carmen and committing herself to acts of charity and education in transport and fleet.
Decarbonisation and air quality
Sally said: ‘It has been an absolute honour to be recognised by such a prestigious institution with a great history and a future dedicated to service to the City of London and charitable causes. I look forward to fulfilling my duties as a Freeman and working closely with Carmen to promote sustainable transport solutions while making a commitment to decarbonising fleets and improving air quality.’
Nick Laister said: ‘On the morning of April 26, I was honoured to award new member, Jeff Lewis, a banker from Toronto, Freedom of the Worshipful Company of Carmen. Later that day, I had the privilege of awarding the freedom of the company to Sally Cumner, CMS SupaTrak, our first corporate member, in front of an audience of delegates from North America who were visiting FVI – The Show. The following day, Jeff Lewis attended FVI to visit The Worshipful Company of Carmen’s stand in Guildhall. It’s a small world, and our North American membership is steadily rising.’
Eric Richardson, NYC Deputy Chief Fleet Management Officer, said: ‘I was lucky enough to see Sally being sworn in as a Carmen at the Worshipful Company of Carmen. A 500-year-old organisation and tradition that is bestowed on those mainly involved in transportation, logistics and supply chain in London and around the globe. The Worshipful Company of Carmen works to ensure that those in the sector work towards the betterment of the industry and improving the City by supporting good works and charities.’
The Worshipful Company of Carmen is one of the largest Livery companies of the City of London, formed in 1517. It has over 500 members, including over 370 Liverymen, 160 Freemen and six apprentices. Charity is a priority, and all members are encouraged to contribute to the company’s charitable funds. Carmen is a progressive and forward-thinking group, building on its heritage to promote transport knowledge, generate debate and encourage innovation within and beyond the transport and logistics industry.
