GreenFleet Awards reveal top players in eco-friendly motoring

Fleet managers looking for new vehicles should opt for German manufacturers, with the GreenFleet Awards 2010 highlighting the best in the business.

The accolades, sponsored by Renault Business, recognised the top motoring people and companies, from the best technologies to the most influential individuals.

Volkswagen took the title of LCV Manufacturer of the Year, with Ford, Renault, Citroen and Mercedes-Benz receiving commendations.

LGV Manufacturer of the Year went to Mercedes-Benz, with Renault, Iveco, DAF and Volvo also recognised for their impressive vehicles.

The Mitubishi iMiEV took the title of Electric Vehicle of the Year, with Aixam’s Mega City and the smart fortwo also recognised.

CMS SupaTrak gained the Innovation in IT Award for the second year running, demonstrating the firm’s commitment to developing low carbon and fuel-saving technologies.

Paul Everitt, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, won the Outstanding Achievement Award for playing a major role in launching and developing the motor industry sustainability report and the annual CO2 report  and leading several policy campaigns on vehicle use and climate change.

Now in their 12th year, the GreenFleet Awards are judged by representatives from the Institute of Car Fleet Management, WhatGreenCar? and GreenFleet magazine.

They recognise those in the industry who have taken on the challenge of combating climate change with pioneering moves to reduce carbon output of fleet vehicles, including the use of fuel-saving technology and boosting sustainability.
