Fuel efficiency may not be enough to reduce carbon emissions
Businesses are being advised that improving their fuel efficiency may not be enough to reduce their carbon emissions. According to a study by the European Environment Agency (EEA), road transport emitted the highest levels of nitrogen oxides and was the second largest contributor of pollutants in 2007. This figure now accounts for approximately 19% of total European greenhouse gas emissions, a rise of 28% between 1990 and 2007.
This has led to calls from environment experts for people to consider more carefully the length and necessity of their daily journeys. Vehicle tracking specialists CMS Supatrak have helped businesses from across the UK to improve efficiency and become more environmentally-friendly. In particular, their Ecotrak product is an award-winning fuel and carbon saving system which enables businesses to monitor and improve driver performance, in order to reduce emissions. A spokesperson for the Wiltshire-based firm commented:
“All businesses have a responsibility to look at ways in which they can reduce their carbon footprint. This is particularly apparent for many of our clients, who operate large fleets of vehicles, clocking up millions of miles every year.”

“This news highlights the importance of not only driving down fuel economy, but also in looking at reducing the amount of journeys which are carried out. Our vehicle tracking products allow businesses to see the exact location of their vehicles at all times, in order for them to plan out the most efficient route and eliminate any trips which are not strictly necessary.”
