Fly Tipper Foiled Thanks To Vehicle Tracking
A recent case involving a man who was prosecuted for illegally disposing of asbestos waste has highlighted the importance of vehicle tracking, according to specialists CMS Supatrak.
Shaun O'Neil of Morley, Leeds was recently brought before the city's Magistrates, accused of fly tipping five large canvas builders' bags filled with the remains of an Asbestos garage. He was found guilty under Environmental Protection Act, fined £200 and ordered to pay £2,117 costs. O'Neil's employers were instrumental in the case, by using their vehicle tracking software to provide evidence which confirmed that his vehicle was at the fly tipping site at the time of disposal.
This story comes in the wake of news from Devon, where a company managed to protect itself from a bogus insurance claim, also thanks to a vehicle tracking device. The case involved a heating engineer from Sidmouth who had been accused of smashing a wing mirror of an oncoming car, as a result of excessive speeding. His employers were able to prove the worker's innocence, by providing a report of his actual speed and location at the time of the alleged offence, all thanks to their tracking system.
A spokesperson for CMS Supatrak commented on these recent stories by saying:
“These cases highlight just one of the areas in which vehicle tracking can be used to help businesses to effectively monitor their fleet and its usage. Keeping tabs on driver behaviour is a vital part of all fleet operations, not only as a means of driving down costs, but also for issues of compliance and liability.”
