Help your drivers to stay within speed limits using SupaTrak Vehicle Tracking

It has been revealed recently that the government is considering introducing a £15 surcharge on top of speeding fines, which would raise the minimum fine to £751.  CMS SupaTrak, who offer a range of tracking systems, say there has never been a more crucial time for fleet managers to monitor driver behaviour.

A spokesman for the company says:
“In recent times, the economic downturn, coupled with increasing pressures to reduce fleets’ environmental impact has led to a greater need to make fuel savings.  This new announcement of a potential increase in fines for motorists caught speeding, coming on top of potential reductions in speed limits on many rural and residential roads2, makes it all the more vital to monitor and control vehicle speed, especially for businesses heavily-dependent on their drivers.”

The £15 surcharge on on-the-spot fines and fixed penalties, which would extend an existing scheme by which extra payments to contribute towards helping the victims of crime are added on to fines imposed by the courts, is still under consideration by the government, and has been criticised by many as a “stealth tax” and unfair since it would be imposed even for offences where there was no victim.  Meanwhile, the new road safety laws reportedly being discussed include lowering speed limits to 20mph in all residential areas, and to 50mph on many rural roads.

CMS SupaTrak’s spokesman goes on to explain how the company’s main vehicle tracking system, SupaTrak Vehicle Tracking, could help fleet managers and business drivers to stay within the new laws:

“The SupaTrak Vehicle Tracking system allows companies to monitor their fleets.  A discreet device is placed in each vehicle, tracking movement, speed and location.  GPS tracking means that you can monitor the location of each of your vehicles at all times.  Meanwhile, by monitoring and recording the speed of your vehicles, you can monitor driver behaviour, and provide feedback or discipline speeding drivers.

“Changes in speed limits can be difficult for drivers to monitor, especially if the new laws are put in place; technology such as vehicle tracking can be of assistance here, not only for the fleet managers, but also for the drivers themselves, since it is also possible for the driver to be alerted by the tracking system if they do break the speed limits.”
