Common Myths Of Fleet Tracking
Vehicle tracking is a relatively new concept and, as with all new technological advances, there are many common myths and misconceptions. In order to clear some of these up, we asked Jason Airey, Managing Director of CMS SupaTrak, the leading supplier of GPS tracking systems and satellite tracking to tackle various common myths about fleet management.
Vehicle tracking is notoriously inaccurate
SupaTrak is very accurate as it uses the Global Position System (GPS) network which normally reports the vehicle position to within a few metres. SupaTrak maps then use this position to display the vehicle down to street level.
Tracking isn't necessary as I don't need to know where my vehicles are all the time
Vehicle tracking helps businesses keep control of their expensive assets, namely people, vehicles and cargos. By monitoring the precise location of vehicles you can determine which vehicle is the most suitable to allocate to a particular job. This saves unnecessary miles and the associated fuel, servicing costs, hours as well as overtime. You will also benefit from the tax changes in April 07, possibly mitigating a increase in employee's tax contributions as well as conforming to the Government's duty of care guidelines.
Tracking my fleet is pointless as it costs more to track the vehicles than I risk to lose
SupaTrak devices and access to the web based mapping system is available from CMS on probably the lowest all inclusive cost per unit available in the UK today. We are able to provide these best value for money services because we design, manufacture, deploy and host the system in-house, hence we can offer the most competitive and flexible tracking system on the market today. Vehicle tracking systems also save your company money in terms of both fuel and servicing costs and man hours.
Tracking requires significant upgrades to my business computer hardware and software
There is no additional software required to run the SupaTrak tracking system. You simply use your PC's web browser to select our web address, login to the secure user section with your unique password to gain full access to your tracked vehicles. As you're logging in to a web address you can be anywhere, not necessarily at your desk.
I only get a report once every week which isn't enough for my requirements
Reports can be generated as often as you like, either on an ad hoc basis or you can produce scheduled reports in formats including PDF and Excel. These will then be automatically emailed to your Microsoft Outlook inbox according to the schedule you have selected.
